Nanette S., Aeon Mira 9
Nanette S, owner of Nettie Crafts in the Annapolis, Maryland area, added an Aeon Mira 9 to her business 18-22 months before calling the Engraver Savers (previously working under the name of our parent company, Rara Avis Design). In that time, she had produced hundreds of cutting boards, coasters, signs, and ornaments on her 100 Watt CO2 laser.
Having engraved on many varieties of wood, cork, slate, stone, and acrylic, the laser nose cone was holding a fair amount of powdery residue in its opening, the mirrors and lenses had become fogged and the lens had developed a small burn spot.
After cleaning the optics to reveal much clearer mirrors and an improved lens appearance, the spot on the lens remained as a permanent wear mark. While not impacting the performance and accuracy of the laser for now, and a perfectly normal sign of wear and tear, we recommended Nanette keep it on her radar and order a new lens to have on hand for the next time we come back to service her laser, so we can install the new lens for free.
Once the entire cleaning and service was complete, Nanette’s machine was looking and cutting like brand new.

Engraver Savers is trained on cleaning, optics alignment, and basic maintenance on all brands of Co2 laser, but Aeon Laser has a special place in our heart.
When not in the field getting dirty in other people’s lasers, Engraver Savers owner Hannah Litvin runs an Aeon Mira 7 in her own studio. Under the business name Rara Avis Design, she designs and makes custom awards and recognition projects, and livestreams projects on her laser via Twitch.

John & Vita Coyne, Mira 9
When John & Vita’s workhorse 90 watt Mira 9 got thrown off alignment and they could not get it back to “right” they enlisted the help of Hannah & Damond to perform a deep clean and thorough beam/mirror alignment service. The laser was cutting with an especially steep angle around the edges, giving cuts that looked “not sharp”, with fat kerf, and poor clarity in engraving despite focusing correctly.
Their machine had been used heavily and constantly for almost 3 years without ever having a deep clean. The job required the team effort of both Hannah and Damond, and took around 5 hours to complete.
After cleaning, when troubleshooting the alignment issue, a good by-the-book alignment process was not fixing the presenting issues. After using a level to ensure the arm/gantry was straight and the machine was level (it was), the team was almost stumped. Then Hannah recalled a recent event at her own studio with her Mira 7, in which the laser head itself had been pushed “out of square.” Instead of straight up and down, John and Vita’s laser head and beam were on a nearly imperceptible 14º angle. Using a true right angle tool, we were able to adjust the laser head back to a perfect 90º, bringing the laser’s output back up to standards.
While we always do a fantastic job and all our clients report huge value from our service, there is always a moment in each service that feels like we truly earned the trust and respect of our clients. This was that moment.
